and solutions, Students will learn and implement environmentally sustainable measures, while incporporating the five facets of the GHC process.

The five facets are Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Biochemistry, Botany, and Chemistry.

SimCityEDU: Pollution Challenge

With SimCityEDU, educators have more than a just digital game. They have the tools and content they need to make learning come alive for their students. In the game, students play the role of mayor, doing the challenging work of addressing environmental impact while balancing the employment needs and the happiness of the city’s residents.

Designed in partnership with the assessment experts from ETS and Pearson, SimCityEDU: Pollution Challenge! not only teaches students about the factors affecting the environment in a modern city, but the game also provides formative assessment information about students’ ability to problem solve and explain the relationships in complex systems.

GREEN ACADEMIES

Through the STEM-GHC program, students will learn and implement environmentally sustainable measures, while incorporating five facets of the GHC process, while incorporating, Seed Germination, Hydroponics, Aquaponics, Aeroponic Technologies, Photovoltaic Paneling, and Rainwater Harvesting.

The five facets are; Engineering: Types of equipment that can help reduce the amount of water used in agriculture. Environmental Sciences: How solar energy is used to reduce the amount of energy purchased. Biochemistry: Irradiation and how is it used in the fresh fruit and vegetable industries. Botany: Hybrid plants and their production. Chemistry: Soil testing in food production.

Through the STEM-GHC Program, students will become environmental stewards and ambassadors, incorporating real-world applications and technology, by creating an infrastructure and framework for responsible stewardship of natural resources. The outcomes are expanded through online learning labs, STEM-GHC Funshops (Kid-Friendly Workshops), and the expansion and groundbreaking of a community garden, fresh produce marketplace, and campus/community beautification from the GHC Lab.

Utilizing the five facets, students will be challenged to use the knowledge learned to design and engineer a STEM–GHC Lab. Through Green Academies, labs will be designed and engineered from the onset of Seed Germination, Hydroponic, Aquaponic, Aeroponic Technologies, Photovoltaic Paneling, Rainwater Harvesting, as well as traditional outdoor and Greenhouse Technologies.

As STEM-GHC promotes stewardship of natural resources, it also helps students develop critical thinking, cooperative problem solving skills, and decision-making skills, to balance the quality of life and the quality of the environment.
